McCain has decided that instead of focusing on the economy, which is consistently the #1 concern among voters this cycle, his campaign would "turn the page" on the economy and move onto other stuff. As if on cue, nearly immediately following that statement, Palin not-so-subtly called Obama a terrorist sympathizer, bringing up the old Ayers nonsense once again.
It seems the Obama campaign has shrugged its shoulders and responded with a 13-minute mini-documentary on McCain's role in the Keating Five, a scandal that:
- Has parallels to the current economic situation
- Hasn't been brought up by any campaign yet, and so will not come across as rehashed/desperate personal attacks
They've realized they can kill two birds with one stone by hitting back with something more powerful than Ayers, while keeping the economy on people's minds, which is going to make for an easy transition back to talking about his economic policies, and from there other main issues like health care.
Well played. You can watch the mini-documentary right here:
UPDATE: Apparently the original upload had audio issues (I wouldn't know, I watched the downloadable .mov version linked above), and the Obama campaign's re-uploaded the video to fix it. The above embedded video now points to the new version.
