Palin flatly lies about energy

Sarah Palin has already established herself as a liar, but that doesn't mean it's not worth pointing out when she does it again. One can't get too many reminders that McCain/Palin are willing to say anything to win, truth be damned.

During her interview with Gibson, Palin, who seems to claim to be some sort of energy independence expert, claimed that Alaska "produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy". Only problem is, that's blatantly false:

Alaska did produce 14 percent of all the oil from U.S. wells last year, but that's a far cry from all the "energy" produced in the U.S.

Alaska's share of domestic energy production was 3.5 percent, according to the official figures kept by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

And if by "supply" Palin meant all the energy consumed in the U.S., and not just produced here, then Alaska's production accounted for only 2.4 percent.

It's not just her, though--McCain has repeated the same lie himself. In a desperate attempt to make Palin look like the master of some grand energy superstructure, the Republican ticket has stooped to grossly lying about Alaska's impact on the U.S.'s energy situation.

I honestly can't remember the last time McCain or Palin made a policy statement that was 100% truthful. What won't they lie about?
